It helps you save money on <strong>Annual Maintenance Charges (AMC)<\/strong> if your total holdings stay within SEBI\u2019s prescribed limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a BSDA, you enjoy the same safety and convenience of a normal Demat account, but at a much lower cost making it ideal for beginners or investors who hold smaller portfolios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who can open a BSDA?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are eligible for a BSDA if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You are the <strong>sole or first holder<\/strong> of the Demat account.<\/li><li>You <strong>do not hold more than one Demat account<\/strong> across all depositories (NSDL\/CDSL).<\/li><li>Your total Demat holdings are <strong>up to \u20b910 lakh<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Your account is <strong>not jointly held<\/strong> with another person.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"amc-annual-maintenance-charges-for-a-bsda\" ><strong>AMC (Annual Maintenance Charges) for a BSDA<br><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Value of Holdings in Demat Account<\/td><td>Maximum AMC<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Up to \u20b94 lakhs<\/td><td>NIL<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>More than \u20b94 lakhs up to \u20b910 lakhs<\/td><td>\u20b9100<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>More than \u20b910 lakhs<\/td><td>Not a BSDA \u2013 Regular AMC applies<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Simple realistic example to understand BSDA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riya wants to start investing, so she opens a Demat account linked with one broker to buy and hold shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She does not have any other Demat account with any broker or depository.
