It is not a fee, it is a risk adjustment to account for potential price movements in the pledged stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Priya pledges shares worth \u20b91,00,000. The haircut on that stock is 10%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Value of holdings: \u20b91,00,000<\/li><li>Haircut (10%): \u20b910,000 deducted<\/li><li>Margin she receives: \u20b990,000<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why does the haircut vary?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each stock has a different haircut based on its volatility and liquidity. A large-cap, actively traded stock like HDFC Bank will have a lower haircut than a small-cap or thinly traded stock.
