Nifty Ends Week on a Positive Note amid Positive Sector and Global Developments

Equity markets continued their upward trajectory this week, with the Nifty 50 closing higher by 0.85%. Market breadth was strong as most sectoral indices ended in the green, reinforcing the positive undertone.

Among sectoral performers, Nifty Pharma posted 1.55% weekly gain, riding on an upgrade from ICRA Ratings which projected 7 - 9% revenue growth in FY26. The optimism is anchored in strong domestic demand, robust product pipelines, and sustained progress in chronic therapies. Alongside Pharma, the Nifty PSE and Nifty Infra indices also posted positive returns, supported by institutional flows and government spending momentum.

On the global front, the US Federal Reserve cut rates by 25 bps, aligning with market expectations but under visible political pressure. The Fed’s easing bias is backed by weakening labor market signals – payroll revisions halved prior job growth estimates and jobless claims surged to their highest level since October 2021. However, Inflation remains stubbornly above the Fed’s 2% target, with risks of a potential reacceleration. This underscores the delicate balancing act between growth and price stability.

Elsewhere, the Bank of Japan kept rates steady, while European markets remained cautious, closely monitoring developments around France’s Political and Fiscal trajectory.

In the commodities space, gold and silver extended their bullish streak, with silver outperforming amid heightened geopolitical risks and a stronger bid for safe-haven assets. The sustained rally highlights investor caution despite buoyant equity sentiment.

Overall, the domestic equity market outlook stays constructive, buoyed by sectoral strength, supportive global liquidity expectations, and resilient domestic drivers. Going ahead, investors will closely watch macro data flows, Fed commentary, and geopolitical cues to gauge the durability of the rally.
