Indian equity markets ended the week on a strong note, supported by optimism around the US - India trade deal announcement and a steady flow of Earnings Season Results. Nifty 50 closed at 25,693, gaining 3.5% over the week. Bank Nifty touched a fresh all time high and ended at 60,120, up 2.9%, while the Sensex advanced 3.5% to close at 83,580.
On the sectoral front, cyclicals led the rally. Nifty Auto, PSE, Infrastructure and Metals indices closed firmly in the green, benefiting from improved global trade sentiment following the US - India agreement and expectations of reduced tax on exports and better demand visibility.
In global markets, technology stocks underperformed, weighing on overall sentiment, amid concerns around the impact of advanced AI tools such as Anthropic’s offerings on traditional legal, compliance and data analytics services. Commodity markets were largely range bound. Brent crude traded around $67 per barrel, broadly in line with last week’s levels. Precious metals saw some profit taking, with gold and silver closing lower for the week after recent sharp gains and heightened volatility in the bullion index.
