The margin you receive depends on the market value of your pledged shares and the haircut applicable to that stock.
A haircut is a percentage deducted from the current market value of your holdings. What remains after the deduction is your usable margin.
Example
Rahul holds shares worth ₹1,00,000 and pledges them under StockPlus. The haircut on that stock is 10%.
- Haircut deducted: ₹10,000
- Margin available: ₹90,000
The haircut varies by stock. More volatile or less liquid stocks carry a higher haircut, which means a lower usable margin against them. Stable, large-cap stocks generally have a lower haircut.
To check the exact margin before pledging, use the StockPlus Leverage Calculator at samco.in/stockplus. Enter the stock name and quantity it shows the current market value, haircut percentage, and the margin you will receive.
