Indian equities ended the week ended 14-Aug-26 on a mixed note, with selective buying in realty and capital goods offset by weakness in metals and defensives. Nifty Realty emerged as the top performer, gaining 1.09%, followed by S&P BSE Capital Goods (+1.06%), while broader midcap and microcap indices posted modest gains. On the downside, Nifty Metal fell 1.88%, while FMCG, Auto and Infra also declined, reflecting profit booking in cyclical pockets. Benchmark indices remained under pressure, with the Nifty 50 down 0.83% and the Sensex down 0.62%. Banking and IT indices also ended lower, indicating a cautious risk appetite ahead of key domestic and global triggers. Overall, market breadth remained stock-specific, with investors continuing to prefer sectors linked to domestic capex and real estate while trimming exposure to commodities and export-oriented segments.
Gold and silver also witnessed a positive week, supported by firm global bullion prices and sustained safe-haven demand. Gold gained 1.0% during the week and closed above ?1,53,000 per 10 grams , indicating continued strength, while silver advanced 1.53% and settled above ?2,35,000 per kg.
