Overview
Tempsens Instruments is a thermal engineering and specialised cable manufacturer offering temperature-sensing solutions, electrical heating solutions, and specialised cables. Its products are customised to customer-specific technical requirements and are used across critical industrial applications spanning power, steel, oil & gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, automotive, aerospace, defence, nuclear, food processing and other sectors. The company combines technical expertise, R&D and responsive sales and operations capabilities to address complex thermal management and connectivity requirements.
Tempsens has a strong position in India’s temperature-sensing market. According to the F&S Report, it was the largest manufacturer of contact and non-contact temperature sensors in India by revenue as of March 31, 2026, with approximately 10.5% market share in FY26. It is also the only Indian manufacturer of non-contact temperature sensors, holding approximately 21.3% of the non-contact temperature sensor market in FY26. The company has further developed niche capabilities in fibre-optic temperature sensors, thermal profiling systems, pyrometers and online thermal imagers, strengthening its position in specialised instrumentation.
Its electrical heating portfolio includes immersion, process, skid, cartridge, band, tubular, flexible and furnace heaters, while its specialised cable portfolio covers instrumentation cables, thermocouple and RTD cables, heat-trace cables and mineral-insulated metal-sheath cables. Tempsens is also among India’s larger electrical heater manufacturers by installed capacity and is one of the few capable of manufacturing low-voltage process heaters, with R&D underway for medium-voltage heaters.
The company serves customers through both Project/OEM and MRO businesses. Project and OEM engagements are approval-driven and require stringent technical qualifications, creating barriers to entry and establishing customer relationships. These projects can subsequently generate recurring MRO replacement orders, providing a more stable revenue stream linked to process uptime, maintenance and regulatory requirements. Between April 2023 and March 2026, Tempsens served more than 1,000 unique customers, while its top 10 customers consistently contributed 25% or less of revenue, indicating a diversified customer base.
Tempsens has a significant international footprint, with 15 manufacturing units globally, including 10 in Udaipur and five overseas, supported by 28 distributors. Its products have been distributed to more than 80 countries between April 2023 and March 2026. The company also has manufacturing or operating presence through subsidiaries and joint ventures in the UAE, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany and Poland, while expanding its sales presence in Mexico. This network supports backward integration, quality control and faster delivery to international customers.
R&D remains central to the company’s strategy, supporting product innovation, customisation and indigenisation of specialised technologies. As of the date, the company, its subsidiaries and joint ventures had 12 patents and 8 registered trademarks in India, along with 39 trademark registrations in overseas jurisdictions. Overall, Tempsens combines niche market leadership, a broad product portfolio, recurring MRO opportunities, a diversified industrial customer base and growing international operations, positioning it as a specialised play on India’s industrial automation, process instrumentation and energy-efficiency themes.

Key Strengths
-
Niche Market Leadership & High Entry Barriers
Tempsens is India’s largest manufacturer of contact and non-contact temperature sensors by revenue, and one of the largest electrical heater manufacturers. Its customised, make-to-order solutions require specialised engineering, certifications and lengthy customer qualification processes, creating high barriers to entry. The company is also the only Indian manufacturer of non-contact temperature sensors, with a 21.3% market share, and one of the few cable manufacturers producing thermocouples. Extensive testing and field trials required for mission-critical applications foster customer stickiness and repeat business. Its focus on indigenisation further reduces dependence on foreign suppliers while strengthening its technological capabilities and competitive position. -
Strong R&D Capabilities Driving Innovation
Tempsens has a strong R&D platform focused on developing customised and critical thermal solutions for complex industrial applications. As of March 31, 2026, its dedicated R&D team comprised 83 employees, supporting product development and customer-specific engineering requirements. The company’s R&D capabilities are reinforced by 12 patents in India, 8 registered Indian trademarks, 1 copyright and 39 overseas trademark registrations. Over the past three years, R&D has enabled the development of fibre-optic temperature sensors, aerospace-grade cables and catalyst bed heaters for space applications. These capabilities support product indigenisation, reduce reliance on external suppliers and strengthen Tempsens’ technological differentiation and entry barriers. -
Global Presence & Diversified Customer Base
Tempsens has built a strong global footprint through subsidiaries, joint ventures and strategic partnerships across the UAE, Germany, Poland, Indonesia and South Korea, enabling proximity to customers and access to local markets. Its products reached over 80 countries between FY23 and FY26, supported by 28 distributors. The amalgamation of Marathon Heater further expanded its electrical heating capabilities, customer base and presence in specialised sectors such as space technology. The company also benefits from strong cross-selling opportunities across its three product verticals, with customers increasingly purchasing multiple solutions, strengthening customer stickiness, relationships and lifetime value.
Key Risks
-
Cyclical Demand, Execution & Global Exposure
Tempsens faces risks from the cyclical nature of its end markets, with demand linked to capital expenditure in sectors such as steel, oil & gas, chemicals and power. Its growing international operations expose it to foreign exchange, geopolitical and regulatory risks. The business also requires significant working capital due to project-based orders and longer execution cycles. Recent acquisitions, amalgamations and joint ventures could create integration and operational challenges. Additionally, maintaining its technological edge requires continued R&D investment, while increasing competition could exert pressure on pricing and margins. The high OFS component of the IPO also limits fresh capital available for future expansion. -
Raw Material Price Volatility & Supply Risk
Tempsens depends on the uninterrupted availability of key raw materials, including copper, aluminium, stainless steel, nickel alloys, platinum, rhodium, polymers, plastics, insulating materials and specialised conductors. Prices of these materials can fluctuate significantly due to movements in commodity and crude oil prices, potentially impacting margins and profitability. Project-specific and customised orders may also require specialised materials with limited availability, increasing the risk of shortages, delays and supply disruptions. Any significant increase in raw material costs or inability to procure required materials on time could adversely affect the company’s business, financial performance, cash flows and timely execution of customer orders. -
Supplier Concentration & Supply Disruption Risk
Tempsens relies on a relatively limited group of suppliers for key raw materials, including metals, polymers, plastics, insulating materials and specialised alloys. Most procurement is conducted through purchase orders rather than long-term binding supply agreements, which provides flexibility but increases exposure to supplier-related risks. Any failure or delay by suppliers in fulfilling orders, particularly for critical or specialised materials, could disrupt production schedules and delay the timely delivery of customised and project-specific orders. Such supply disruptions may adversely impact the company’s business, financial performance, operations and cash flows.

Peer Group Comparison
The company does not have an exact comparable listed peer in India. Although several listed companies specialise in temperature sensors, electrical heating solutions or specialised cables, no listed entity operates across all three product categories.
Conclusion
Tempsens presents a strong niche industrial business with market leadership in temperature sensing, differentiated technology, customised solutions and meaningful global reach. Its diversified customer base, recurring MRO opportunity and strong R&D capabilities provide visibility for sustained growth, while improving revenue and profitability demonstrate healthy operating performance. However, investors should remain mindful of exposure to cyclical end-user industries, raw material and supplier risks, working-capital intensity and the predominantly OFS-led IPO structure. Overall, the company offers attractive long-term fundamentals and a differentiated competitive position. We recommend subscribing to the IPO for the long term.
