Bharat Electronics Share Price Sees Rise Following Defence Ministry Contract

Market Performance

On April 8, 2025, the share price of Bharat Electronics increased by 6% during early trading, reaching ₹288 per share. The surge followed the announcement of a new contract awarded by the Ministry of Defence, indicating a strong market reaction to the development.

Key Development

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth approximately ₹2,210 crore with Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on April 7, 2025. The agreement involves the supply of Electronic Warfare (EW) suites for the Indian Air Force's Mi-17v5 helicopters. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed these systems indigenously through its CASDIC division and will be manufactured by BEL.

The EW suites include:

  • Radar Warning Receiver (RWR)
  • Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS)
  • Countermeasure Dispensing System (CMDS)

These systems are designed to enhance the combat survivability of helicopters by providing effective defensive countermeasures.

Company Operations and Contracts

This recent ₹2,210 crore contract is the second significant order BEL has received in less than a week. On April 2, 2025, BEL signed another contract with the Ministry of Defence valued at ₹593.22 crore (excluding taxes) for the maintenance of the Akash Missile System, which the company originally supplied.

In total, Bharat Electronics has secured orders worth ₹2,803 crore so far in the current fiscal year (FY25).
