This message appears when you try to sell shares on the Samco app but the app cannot find any holdings that are free and available for delivery.
Why does this happen?
There are a few reasons why your holdings may not be free for selling:
- Shares bought today have not yet settled — Shares bought in the cash market are credited to your Demat account after T+1 (next trading day). Until then they cannot be sold.
- Shares are pledged — If you have pledged your shares as collateral, they are blocked and cannot be sold until they are unpledged.
- Shares under T group, Z group, or BE series — These stocks follow a trade-to-trade settlement, which means every buy and sell is settled separately. If you bought shares under this category today, you cannot sell them on the same day.
- Shares blocked due to corporate actions — If a company has announced a bonus, stock split, or rights issue, your shares may be temporarily blocked during the record date period and will not be available for selling until the corporate action is processed.
What you need to do:
Go to the Portfolio section on the Samco app and check your holdings. Identify which of the above reasons applies to your shares and take the appropriate action wait for T+1 settlement, unpledge your shares, or wait for the corporate action to be processed before placing the sell order again.
